About the book: Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen -- literally, ouch! -- both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom...
Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.
Quote of the Book: "If you think I'm deadly in flip-flops, you should see me in roller skates." -Emma McIntosh
My thoughts and opinion: Because I really want to talk about a lot of things, let's start first with the cover. Isn't that a nice cover?? The contrast between the blinding white and the midnight blue is genius! I also thought the title was interesting, how the "Of" is inside the O of "Poseidon".
This book just melted me into a gooey goop of goo especially when I was reading parts where Emma and Galen showed up. They are like two puppies or lovebirds as Rachel puts it. Most of the characters like Emma and Galen were hilarious, but the award really goes to Emma because whenever it was her turn being the point of view, I was either laughing or laughing. Of course there were parts where I felt bad for her.
Emma is lucky to have Galen in her life because, haha, Galen is a great guy. I already knew I would like him within the first few pages of the book. He was very funny and then he was really serious and then he was jealous. I thought Galen's emotions were extremely intense, but that's either because of Emma or Rayna. Oh speaking of Rayna, what a feisty Syrena! She totally belongs with Toraf since he balances her out! Goodness, if only Emma and Galen's relationship were as simple as Rayna and Toraf's relationship! Everyone including me would be happy. Then again the story would end much too soon.
Putting all the romance and love and relationships aside, I thought this book was awesome. Banks did a wonderful job with the two point of views; I was hesitant when I realized that, but the outcome of the story was extraordinary.
I loved how realistic Banks described the Syrena and the ancient history behind them. I thought the feud between the Poseidon House and the Triton House was foolish, but if I had to pick, I'd go with Poseidon. I don't think I could ever hate anyone or anything so I could never actually hate humans like Syrena of Triton do.
I should also mention how amazing the foreshadowing was! Of course, I was too distracted with the characters to notice the hints and clues Banks left. That is why the ending was a major bombshell to me; it was totally unexpected! And if I truly know myself, then I know that I love, love, LOVE surprise endings!
Overall, I'm glad I actually bought this book. That way, I would be able to treasure it and read it until I can recite it in my sleep. Absolutely cannot wait for the sequel to come out. Even if you don't love the ocean, read Of Poseidon! It'll blow (or shall I say) wash your mind away!

Cracked Up to Be by Courtney Summers
About the book: When "Perfect" Parker Fadley starts drinking at school and failing her classes, all of St. Peter's High goes on alert. How has the cheerleading captain, girlfriend of the most popular guy in school, consummate teacher's pet, and future valedictorian fallen so far from grace?
Parker doesn't want to talk about it. She'd just like to be left alone, to disappear, to be ignored. But her parents have placed her on suicide watch and her counselors are demanding the truth. Worse, there's a nice guy falling in love with her and he's making her feel things again when she'd really rather not be feeling anything at all.
Nobody would have guessed she's turn out like this. But nobody knows the truth.
Something horrible has happened, and it just might be her fault.
Quote of the Book: "Cardboard cutouts of cheerleaders operated by arthritic monkeys would move more fluidly." -Parker Fadley
My thoughts and opinion: I seem to read books with covers of something plaid now. It's not intentional, but when I took a break, somewhere in the middle of the book, I studied the cover and realized that Parker was wearing a plaid skirt. Hahaha. Isn't that a coincidence? Not that I don't like her uniform; I love plaid uniforms or any kind of uniforms.
So, I thought this book was going to be a light read. Just something to keep me occupied while I try to search for the next Gallagher Girls book at the library. Boy, was I wrong. This book was absolutely not a light read because it was packed with raw emotion and I felt Parker's pain like it was my own. That being said, I really thought this book hit close to home; some parts were confusing though. For example, I was not quite fond of the flashbacks being chopped up into pieces and then glued back together at the end. I was grateful that Summers italicized the flashbacks because that clearly told me that, "Hey you're reading a flashback now!"
Parker Fadley was the most complicated, moody, sarcastic, hilarious character I have ever read. While reading, I had a difficult time deciding if I liked her or not. I still don't know now! She was brilliantly funny, but she was also frustratingly shallow. Parker was definitely an unbearable girl sometimes, but I don't think I could ever hate her. Just like how Chris and Jake can't ever hate her.
I thought Jake was such a fool because clearly, Parker did not want anything to do with him yet he kept coming back. In fact, Parker didn't want anything to do with anyone. But did that stop Jake Gardner? I did admire his persistence to get to know Parker.
Cracked Up to Be was a great book and I did not want to stop reading; it was like I had to finish the book or else. I wish I could say I read it in one sitting but there was just so much emotion to digest. This book will certainly be one of those unforgettable books; seriously, I don't think I will ever forget how the flavors of Cracked Up to Be tasted.

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter
About the book: Cammie Morgan is back, and it's clear that her life hasn't calmed down since the events of I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. At first, giddy anticipation is in the air. Gallagher Academy, Cammie's elite spy school, is hosting a visit from a covert training center for boys. Soon after the boy's arrival, though, everything goes dangerously awry when a series of security breaches are discovered at the academy. Worse yet, teenage agent-in-training Cammie is being blamed for the penetration. With the school's top-secret status at risk, the Gallagher Girls have to work quickly to save their beloved school.
Quote of the Book: "But even the Gallagher Academy hadn't figured out a way to help us protect our hearts." - Cameron "Cammie" Morgan.
My thoughts and opinion: Man, I really love these school uniforms! Every single skirt must be some form of plaid!
Cammie really has a lot to manage! Her studies in Gallagher Academy, her CoveOps, her mother, her friends, and now there's Zach. Seriously, hasn't Cammie had enough guys? I think she really deserves a break from all these emotional roller coasters!
I'd like to meet the boys from Blackthorne Institute. ;) Of course, the main guy who's enrolled there is Zach and let's talk about him. Zach is such a cocky spy! He's like the younger version of James Bond. (although Zach lacks that cool, British accent). I didn't really like his tough guy shell; later in the book, that's when I started to like Zach. I liked him when he was caring and softer; this sort of goes without saying, but Zach's not Josh. Not at all. Come to think of it, I prefer Josh because he's so sweet and loving without all the cockiness.
However, I think Cammie can survive without Josh; she absolutely can't survive without Zach (literally)! Zach actually knows who Cammie is and she doesn't have to hide herself from him. Plus they would make a great spy couple!
I really liked this second book because, well, there are a lot more CoveOps assignments. Especially the last one which I'm not going to spoil for you guys, but it's awesome! I totally did not expect that to happen. And then what happened afterwards. Hilarious.
I took quite a while to finish this book mainly because I had a lot of things to do. But you guys have got to read this book! Whether it be all in one sitting or not! Find the time to get your hands on the book, sit down (or lay down), and read, read, read Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy! After finishing I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You of course. :-)

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter
About the book: Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy For Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school -- typical that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies. Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real "pavement artist"--but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?
Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she's on her most dangerous mission--falling in love.
Quote of the Book: "'...tell Suzie she's a lucky cat.' Have sexier words ever been spoken? I seriously think not!" -Cameron "Cammie" Morgan.
My thoughts and opinion: I just want to start off by saying how great Cammie's outfit looks. Not that I would ever want to wear a skirt, but it appears really clean and sophisticated! And I just love plaid; so the skirt is very cool, but short! The ransom, cut-off-of-a-magazine words in the title is cool and whimsical, too!
I liked reading in Cammie's point of view because well, she's attending Gallagher Academy and that's a spy school so how is that not fun and awesome? Mr. Solomon. Why do only books have hot male teachers because I can tell you guys that that never happens in reality. However, I would not be comfortable thinking about my mom and my teacher have an interest in each other. That's just so wrong on so many levels. And I'd like to try one of Dr. Fibs's experiments! Ooh! Evapopaper sounds cool since you can eat something that was written on to keep it secret.
Onto the characters. I love each of them differently and I don't think I dislike any too much. Well I guess I hated Dillon, but guys like him are inevitable in stories like these. And plus, it makes his friend, Josh, look way better.
Speaking of Josh, why can't Cammie and Josh be with each other without dumb complications like her being a spy and him being a regular guy who can't know about her true identity? Goodness. I did like their history and the events and things that led up to their relationship. Also, of course, their relationship was wonderful (while it lasted). I just didn't think the book focused much on the actual relationship; it was more on the stalking and digging through his personal information (not to mention, digging through his trash!)
I think Josh is the nicest, sweetest, (cutest), most gentlemanly, down-to-earth character I have ever read! Unless I read about another guy that's better than him at the manners department. So, I definitely was heartbroken when she had to end the relationship. That had to be done because as I was reading, I even thought that the lies were too much! Oh, but my heart was temporarily taped together when Josh appeared and told Cammie he called 911 because he saw her being kidnapped. And then he surprised her by reappearing with a bulldozer! Hahaha, that part was hilarious because I did NOT expect Josh to do such a thing.
I enjoyed reading about another friendship and in this book, it was Cammie, Liz, Bex, and just now there's Macey. It was awesome to read about Liz, a character who is intelligent and good with computers (like hacking into emails) and who is friends with the main character! I felt like I could relate to Liz. And then there's Bex who is the tough, destroying-your-boyfriend-if-he-hurts-you friend and you know she will have your back (in this case, it might be literally!) Finally, I thought Macey was out of place at first, but Macey is the diva in the group! I need to make friends with a girl like her so I could get some fashion tips and advice.
I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You was a nice, funny read and I enjoyed it. The characters were really different and separate in their own ways. I wish I could say that I read this book in one sitting, but school kind of got in the way. Read this book, but be sure to read it someplace where you know you won't be seen; reading this book must be done in secret!

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
About the book: A SACRED OATH, A FALLEN ANGEL, A FORBIDDEN LOVE
Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgement.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.
Quote of the Book: "Keep in mind that people change, but the past doesn't." -Patch Cipriano
My thoughts and opinion: I am really glad that I chose to read this book again! Every time I do, it's like getting on the Archangel roller coaster for the first time. I don't even know where to begin.
Nora is such a lucky girl; she has the best friend ever and she has Patch's interest. I really liked her cautious personality and how she tried to stay away from Patch, but couldn't. That part of her just made Patch more determined and it just made him more attractive! It was really amusing to read about Nora's growing curiosity for Patch and their meetings got more serious, in a sense.
Shockingly, I did not like Vee, even if she is Nora's best friend. Vee introduced Nora to Elliot Saunders and Jules and THAT started all the trouble. I guess Vee's wild personality balances out Nora's safe personality and their friendship is important.
Deborah or Miss Greene is a crazy lady. I never would have imagined her in a relationship with Patch. But then again, it's not like Patch isn't a good looking fallen angel so of course she was in a relationship with him. However, what did Patch ever see in her? Deborah is a psycho!
Jules is just as creepy. Creepy and stupid. All that time he spent explaining his genuis plan to Nora was wasted; he had loads of chances to kill Nora, but nooo. All the stupid bad guys have to take their time doing whatever. Poor Elliot; he had no idea what he got into. He was creepy as well.
And then, there's Patch. Where do I begin? Everytime Patch is with Nora, there is this spark that I really enjoyed reading. Seriously, Patch and Nora are meant to be! Patch's sarcasm and humor is wicked. I laughed the most at parts where there was Patch. And his attitude is smooth and Patch has charm, which he uses to get Nora's attention. Did I mention his awesome body? No wonder Nora couldn't resist Patch! There is also the fact that he can go into Nora's mind and speak to her. How cool is that!
Go, go, go and read this book! It will engulf you and you'll love this book; unless you don't like sexy, mysterious guys like Patch, I really recommend this book. And Patch becomes something else in the ending (which I don't feel like giving away) so I cannot wait to read the second book, Cresendo, even if it will be for the second time. Hush, Hush was a fantastic read with a lot of spiciness.

Girls Dinner Club by Jessie Elliot
About the book: Ingredients
-one rainy afternoon
-one huge crush on a boy
-a few secrets
-a kitchen, preferably somewhere in Brooklyn
-fresh laughter - as much as you want
-one or two broken hearts
-a pinch of salt
-a good friend - or even better, three
The love of Junie's life for the past year is suddenly acting like a crazed puppy.
Celia's dad has found the most ridiculous woman in all of Manhattan - and decided, after fifteen years of being single, to date her.
Danielle's hot-guy-in-a-band ex-boyfriend is trying to convince her that he's "changed."
Sometimes living life is a recipe for disaster.
Sometimes girls just have to make their own recipes.
Quote of the Book: "May you keep on cooking together for years to come." -Max Clarke
My thoughts and opinion: I loved this book when I first read it and if it's possible, I think I love it even more this second time! Junie, Celia, and Danielle's friendship is so hard to come by these days and I just loved how they clicked together by random or fate.
Food was a really cool part of this book, too. I'd love to cook with my friends and enjoy it like Celia, Danielle, and Junie do. It really seemed like so much fun!
I hated the guys in this book (well besides Max, Henry, and Rob). Steve was a big jerk and Brian was too desperate and needy and I just didn't LIKE them. What in the world did Junie see in Brian and what in the world did Junie NOT see in Rob? Poor Rob though, but I seriously hate smokers and in the book, Junie does, too. So, I guess Brian had to go. And why did Danielle give that piece of trash her time of day when old habits die hard? She should have known that Steve was going to cheat on her again!
Henry was really funny and a great guy for Celia. He spices up Celia's mature behavior a bit. Who doesn't love a nice, fun British person once in a while? Their departure at the airport was heartbreaking for me to read! The way Elliot wrote it and how Henry started tearing and Celia was already crying puddles.
Another thing that made me cry was Nonna's death. I really loved a grandma character for Danielle because it's just warm and nice! Nonna was so wise and I wish I could ask her for some tricks and tips for cooking. Now, there's a strong woman!
I love, love, love this book because of so many things! Just read it and you guys'll see what I'm talking about! It's a tasty, delicious, full of flavor book!

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
About the book: Annabel Greene is the girl who has everything. At least, that's what she portrays in her modeling shoots. But Annabel's life is far from perfect. Her friendship with Sophie ended bitterly, and her older sister's eating disorder is weighing down the entire family. Isolated and ostracized at school and at home, Annabel retreats into silent acceptance. Then she meets Owen -- intense, music-obsessed, and determined to always tell the truth. And with his guidance, Annabel learns to just listen to herself and gains the courage to speak honestly. But will she be able to tell everyone what really happened the night she and Sophie stopped being friends?
Quote of the Book: "I'm just doing the best I can, under the circumstances." -Owen Armstrong
My thoughts and opinion: This book took me longer than I thought it would. Probably because I had first-day-of-school stuff to worry about. First of all, I love Owen and Annabel together. I thought Rolly and Clarke's relationship wouldn't last for a minute, but it was cute.
I'd like to be friends with Owen; he just seems like a cool guy who loves music (and has his own radio station! How cool is that!). He's such a patient guy, too. If I had a sister like Mallory, I wouldn't be able to stand her bubbly energy. Annabel frustrated me a bit in the story. She blocked out Owen so much that I was even feeling Owen's pain and hurt! I'm glad that Owen broke down Annabel's walls, even if it was a slow process.
Second of all, I was amazed at how Annabel was once friends with Sophie. Throughout the book, I thought, "She got you all these wonderful things like popularity, invitations to parties, and boys. So what?" I can't imagine ditching my best friend for someone who has Sophie's kind of attitude. The funny thing was, I kind of thought of Sophie as a younger version of Kirsten. However, that would be too mean to lump them together; Kirsten is not as horrible as Sophie is.
Finally, I loved seeing The Truth Squad again! That's one of the best things about reading books from the same author; he or she would most likely bring up other characters from other books. So, I was really happy I got to read about Remy, Dexter, and the rest; I got to read how they were doing. It is sort of like a sequel, but it's a sequel inside another book!
I recommend this book to quiet, shy people who love or don't love music. If you guys don't love music (I don't know what is wrong with y'all), but if you don't, that's okay. I did not think music was such a big part in this book; it was there, but it's not a major thing. Now, saying that, I still love Just Listen. Sarah Dessen did not disappoint because it was a musical read and eat; my taste buds are still singing!

My Life, the Theater, and Other Tragedies by Allen Zadoff
About the book: There's life and death. And then there's theater.
Adam Ziegler thinks the best way to live is behind the scenes. Since his father died two years ago, Adam has retreated into the world of high-school theater, finding his place high on the catwalk, running the spotlight.
But then he spies an actress, Summer, rehearsing for the spring production, and he falls for her--hard. Just as Adam's about to make his move, one of the leads breaks her ankle, and Summer is propelled to stardom. There she comes under the spell of Derek Dunkirk, the rich-kid student designer with the British accent.
With a rival like that, what chance does an average crew guy have? To get the girl and maybe even save the show, Adam will have to overcome his fears, defy his best friend, and break his theater's golden rule: Techies and actors don't mix.
Using his signature combination of insight and humor, author Allen Zadoff explores the complexities of finding your way through life, love and high school as Adam struggles to find the courage to step out of the shadows and into the lights.
Quote of the Book: I decided to make a new segment (part?) for my reviews and it'll just be a quote I liked from that book. Since I, usually, am obsessed about cool, inspiring, quirky, making-you-think-about-it quotes, I thought I could do that for my book reviews!
"He tips the invisible hat to me and goes out. The theater doors click shut behind him. The ghost light flickers. I imagine the bulb burning, leaving me alone here in a dark theater. I start to feel afraid. I should go home now. I should call someone, like Mr. Apple said. But I don't. I climb." -Adam "Z" Ziegler
My thoughts and opinion: I can't believe it took so long to find this book and it took so long for me to finish reading it. Kind of funny if you think about it. I got so caught up watching Pretty Little Liars and Chopped. Not anymore. My main focus now is reading and reviewing as many books as I can before school starts.
Let's get started on this book. I loved all but two characters. Derek and Summer. Even though Summer is the love interest of Adam "Z" Ziegler, I hated her for leading him on and then just cutting him off when it got close to the production day! Why would you lead a guy on in the first place?? And Derek, the Brit, is just as stupid. He takes credit for good work that he didn't even do; he points fingers at the techies when something goes wrong. I'm sticking to my Australians; hopefully they won't be as arrogant as Derek is in the book. But then again, I can't lump ALL British people in with Derek.
I really loved Grace though. Even if she made a poor choice with Derek, she recovered brilliantly. You guys don't even know how much I wished for Grace and Adam to become a couple. Oh well. Reach, Adam's best friend, needs to be with SOMEONE so I think Grace and Reach would be a much more hilarious couple. Besides, to me, Reach is a little more miserable than Adam in the love department.
I have no idea what drove me to check this book from the library. Maybe the cover? Although it looks really cheesy; like High School Musical cheesy. But it was a nice read and eat.
I recommend this to those who like the theater, but not too obsessively. It doesn't have THAT much drama and theater stuff in it. So, overall, I thought My Life, the Theater, and Other Tragedies was a light bite.

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
About the book: When it comes to relationships, Remy doesn't mess around. After all, she's learned all there is to know from her mother, who's currently working on husband number five. But there's something about Dexter that seems to defy all of Remy's rules. He certainly doesn't seem like Mr. Right. For some reason, however, Remy just can't seem to shake him. Could it be that Remy's starting to understand what those love songs are all about?
My thoughts and opinion: This is my second time reading This Lullaby and I've got to say...Dexter and Remy were really meant to be together! And reading about their relationship and how it seems to be a horrible one yet it wasn't, that I loved. I definitely cannot be a Remy since I can't bargain and I can't fold my feelings and emotions up. And I think I am more like a mix between Dexter and Remy's mother.
Like Lola and the other Joie workers, I do admire Remy's "cold, hard bitch / hard-ass" attitude. I really liked that part where she strictly told a customer that only one time was open and Remy told her to take it or leave it. Definitely not a people-pleaser, Remy.
Also, I'd like whatever she's eating to have such an arm! Like Remy's mother, I have, not terrible, but not a good aim. Maybe it's from drinking all those Zip drinks! However, I don't like Diet Coke that much so oh well.
Dexter and Remy's relationship is such a wonderful one because it's totally unexpected for the two to pair up. Dexter with his wild, clumsy self and Remy with her clean, precise nature. But it clicks together; that's why I love them together. They balance each other out and it just works. It's easy yet beautiful.
Also, like any other book, I hated two characters. Yep. Don and Patty. Even their names are lame. They deserve each other. I just wished that Remy's mom didn't get hurt; even though I couldn't feel exactly what Remy felt, it was painful to read about Barbara seeming so sad and shocked. I desired to pelt every single one of those Ensure bottles at Don; maybe I could have gotten some help from Remy.
And then there was Dexter's band. What a fun-loving bunch. While reading this book, I thought to myself "It would be so cool if Remy's group of friends started dated all of Dexter's band." Of course, in this dream world, Scary Mary wasn't there. If she wasn't, it could have somehow worked.
Overall, I loved This Lullaby. Sarah Dessen never fails to delight me with her books which is why she's one of my favorite authors! Dessen always delivers and I really received the message in This Lullaby. You'll be humming song lyrics after having a taste of this book!

Wolves, Boys and Other Things That Might Kill Me by Kristen Chandler
About the book: KJ Carson didn't plan on writing about the wolves living in Yellowstone National Park. She'd been really good at minding her own business for the past sixteen years. But when shaggy-haired Virgil shows up in her journalism class -- increasing the population of West End, Montana, to 948 -- KJ finds herself doing things she'd never imagined. She's getting up before dawn to go wolf watching, writing newspaper articles about the highly controversial wolf reintroduction program, and kissing the boy who helps her do it all. She may be in over her head, but she's finally following her heart.
And then a shotgun blast reminds her where she is: a place where the only good wolf is a dead wolf . . . and anyone who defends them is threatened with a similar fate. In the past, KJ would've turned tail and run, but now there's more than just her own life at stake. Is she interested in the wolves because she's falling for Virgil? Or is she falling for the wolves themselves?
Debut author Kristen Chandler introduces a refreshing heroine and a love that's as precarious as it is out of the ordinary.
My thoughts and opinion: KJ is an interesting nickname. But I'd rather people call me that than Katherine Jean. Such a mouthful for other people to address me by. Virgil is also an interesting name for a guy. But I wouldn't mind being friends with Virgil. He seems like a cool guy who is a photographer with blond hair. Yup, I'd like a friend like that! ;-)
I kind of like the setting in this book because it's a small town near Yellowstone. Now, I have been to Yellowstone this summer and I have to say, it was breath-taking. There's nothing like the trees, the air, the nature, and you. Like what Sam, KJ's father, says, "It's just good to be out." However, the people in KJ's town just bugs and annoys me. I guess living in a small town means you can't make mistakes and lose your reputation because one mistake and you're practically exiled and looked down upon; I could never handle that.
Also, I really wish I knew how to row. If only I could get rowing lessons from KJ...Although, I don't think I would be a very good student. Rowing is tiring and I'm pretty lazy with my arms.
The wolves caught my attention, too. Actually I picked up this book because of the strange, black wolf on the cover. Normally, I don't read books with animals; it's not often I would be able to find one at the library. So, I felt like reading a book with wolves. Like, why not?
Reading Wolves, Boys and Other Things That Might Kill Me made me feel ashamed because I hate people who shoot animals. So obviously I hated ranchers like Kenner and his family. But my mind has been opened to understand how the ranchers feel; they must feel hopeless when their cattle get ripped to pieces by wolves. This book literally put me in the ranchers' shoes and I realized why they think of wolves as vicious creatures.
Wolves, Boys and Other Things That Might Kill Me was a fantastic read and had a woodsy, outdoorsy taste to it. I would love to actually bring this book with me to Yellowstone, find a gigantic tree, and just sit there, reading until sunset.

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
About the book: Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit -- more sparkly, more fun, more wild -- the better. But even though Lola's style is outrageous, she's a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.
When Cricket -- a gifted inventor -- steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.
My thoughts and opinion: Let me just say...I WAS SO THRILLED TO FIND OUT THAT ANNA AND ST. CLAIR SHOW UP IN THIS BOOK! Anna and St. Clair are in the book, Anna and the French Kiss, also written by Stephanie Perkins. (What's so wonderful about this blog is that I have a reason to reread some of my favorites so I could review them!) It took me a LONG time to realize that it wasn't a coincidence that Lola's friends at the movie theater have the same names as the couple in Anna and the French Kiss. I think up to the part where Lola notices Anna writing in a left-handed notebook was when it hit me. I remember every character I read that is left-handed because it allows me to relate somewhat to them.
I admired Lola's style. She has spunk and I was interested how Cricket, the nervous nerdy inventor, would look next to her. I would never have the guts to wear something that is wild. If it's wilder than a skirt, then count me out! I would like to learn how to make my own clothes though. Shopping is such a pain especially for my wallet.
Now. Cricket is the type of person that I hate because of his indecisiveness and his fear of committing to a relationship. However, I also love Cricket because of his sincerity and how he is like an open book. Plus tinkering with objects and being tall helps him stand out. I liked that about him.
Who knew Max would turn out that way? I sort of LIKED him at first, but not anymore. Near the end of the book, Max, despite his sweet protective/jealousy side and his moody/emo/rocker side, would never be a good match for Lola. Then again. Lola is to blame as well. She should have ended things with him sooner.
What's with the characters in this book, leading people on?
Oh well. I liked them, but maybe not in the same way for everyone.
Lola and the Boy Next Door was also interesting because Lola has two fathers. I am absolutely for the gays and getting to read a book with a character having gay parents was a first for me. Unusual but enjoyable. But I gotta say, TWO PROTECTIVE FATHERS? I don't think Lola ever gets away with anything. Hahahaha.
This is a fun book and Stephanie Perkins amazed me yet again. I'd love to get seconds on this book!

My Double Life by Janette Rallison
About the book: Her whole life, Alexia Garcia has been told that she looks just like pop star Kari Kingsley, and one day when Alexia's photo filters through the Internet, she's offered a job to be Kari's double. This would seem like the opportunity of a lifetime, but Alexia's mother has always warned her against celebrities.
Rebelliously, Alexia flies off to L.A. and gets immersed in a celebrity life. Not only does she have to get used to getting anything she wants, she romances the hottest lead singer on the charts, and finds out that her own father is a singing legend. Through it all, Alexia must stay true to herself, which is hard to do when you are pretending to be somebody else!
My thoughts and opinion: I just want to put this out that I would be so stoked if I had a half-sister that was a celebrity. How cool is that? Also, I would be able to buy anything and NOT go out in public. Unfortunately, I have Kari's problem of not saying the right things when a lot of people are looking at me.
However, I admit, I did not like Kari at all. Even if she is a celebrity with a mansion and can spend money like it's water, her attitude and tantrums irritated me. And her compulsive spending at malls or casinos. In the book, she says that she does not have a gambling problem, but SHE DOES. Maybe the value of money to rich people aren't that big of a deal, but Kari was losing. If she won money from going to casinos, then okay. Otherwise, I just hated everything about her.
On the other hand, Alexia is a bit like Kari as well. Her compulsive thinking led her to decide to hop on a jet and fly to California without saying goodbye to her mother. I didn't mind that because besides that, Alexia is a nice girl who was raised well by her mother. She gets straight-A's and likes to read! A bit of déjà vu because I love to read, too.
Also, I just wish Alexia's mother told her about Alex Kingsley BEFORE. Like before the fly to California. Before Kari's manager finding Alexia and asking her to do the job. That would have prevented some anger from Alexia.
Speaking of Kari's manager, I hate her along with Kari. They should go somewhere else and argue together. Away from Alexia :-). The part where she is talking smugly to Alexia and Alex shows up, stating that Alexia is his daughter made me whoop and holler. Maren's face would have been so priceless.
This book was a fun read and a fun snack. I've never eaten such a book that had so many...sparkles.

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
About the book: Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn't seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she's coming to terms with her father's death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps form the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself.
My thoughts and opinion: I have GOT to do this when I'm done with high school and get a boyfriend. This meaning the exact road trip that Amy and Roger took. I have got to listen to the same music, eat the same snacks, go to the same stops, places, restaurants (if they're even real and if they're even still there). Book rooms in hotels with my name being Hillary and my boyfriend, Edmund.
By the way, looking for new music? I found a lot of great songs in Amy & Roger's Epic Detour so give it a try you guys! Roger has really good musical taste even if the band names seem like they aren't all that.
I feel like Amy is my twin. Well, except the part where she doesn't like tennis because I adore tennis even if I suck horribly at it. And cream soda...That name sounds suspicious so I actually like Roger's choice of beverage: root beer. However, I love her opinion on peanut butter and Amy's choice of candy was Skittles so I was happy to read every receipt that had it. I also loved the way Amy and Roger would already know what the other person likes and grab that for them.
Secondly, I don't think I would ever be able to drive if such a thing happened to my father. Amy was really brave getting back in the driver's seat like that for the rest of her trip.
I got really, really frustrated because THEY COULD HAVE BEEN TOGETHER IN THE BEGINNING. IF ONLY THEY OPENED THEIR EYES AND REALIZED IT SOONER. Hahaha, nearly everyone else did.
I was really fond of Lucien because he is a true artist, making shrubbery sculptures. I felt light and happy when he trimmed an owl for Amy. That was really sweet of him.
But his sister, Hadley? I hate her with all my life. I just do not get along with those type of girls who can't commit or can't explain themselves.
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour was interesting and had very unique flavors. I'd love to read this again! Just to taste the spices and sweetness. :-)

Sing Me to Sleep by Angela Morrison
About the book:
THE TRANSFORMATION
Beth has always been "The Beast", that's what everyone at school calls her because of her awkward height, facial scars, and thick glasses. Beth's only friend is geeky, golden-haired Scot. That is, until she's selected to be her choir's soprano soloist, and receives the makeover that will change her life forever.
THE LOVE AFFAIR
When Beth's choir travels to Switzerland, she meets Derek: pale, brooding, totally dreamy. Derek's untethered passion - for music, and for Beth - leaves her breathless. Because in Derek's eyes? She's not The Beast, she's The Beauty.
THE IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE
When Beth comes home, Scott, her best friend in the world, makes a confession that leaves her completely torn. Should she stand by sweet, steady Scott or follow the dangerous, intense new feelings she has for Derek?
THE HEARTBREAK
The closer Beth gets to Derek, the further away he seems. Then Beth discovers that Derek's been hiding a dark secret from her...one that could shatter everything.
My thoughts and opinion: Ooh, Canadians! ;-) I totally want to see Derek with Beth in real life. And Scott! He reminds me of those adorable puppies that follow you around everywhere you go.
First of all, I liked this book because it kind of addresses those readers who are the loner types and others who THINK they are unattractive. This book puts them under the spotlight and shows them not to be insecure and have some confidence in you! Oh goodness, what am I saying?
Second of all, this book really had my tear faucet turned on! I did not cry like I did for this book in a long time! Really refreshing except that I cried on my pillow which I use to sleep at night...Not good for the pillow :-)
I really like Derek though because THAT BOY CAN SING! Not many boys I know can sing so a plus for him! His death was the most tearful part for me. And the events that led up to it. For instance, when Beth finds out that he is really, really sick and she rushed to see him.
I never really liked Blake. Ugh, I hate him. Getting all drunk like that on Sara. I mean, Sara's not on my favorites list either, but Blake was a jerk to her.
Read this book if you guys want to shed some tears after being mad or just lost. That said, Sing Me to Sleep was a...salty read. ;-)

One Night That Changes Everything by Lauren Barnholdt
About the book: Eliza is in a full-blown panic. Her notebook has been stolen - the one that lists everything she wants but is afraid to go after. And the absolute worst person in the world has it: her ex-boyfriend, Cooper.
Like it's not enough Cooper was lying to Eliza for their entire relationship, now he and his friends are blackmailing her. They're giving her just one night to complete the most humiliating tasks on her list or they'll post her secrets online - including the ones that aren't just about her.
Eliza's sure of only one thing: she isn't going down without a fight. Cooper may have what's left of her dignity, but she's not the only one with something to hide ...
My thoughts and opinion: Now, this is a hilariously, fun book to read. I would recommend it as a summer read because the dialogue is amusing and witty and the situations Eliza gets stuck in are...interesting.
I really loathe Tyler and his whole gang or posse or crew. The 318s are stupid; I mean, seriously, the NAME is even stupid. Stealing Eliza's notebook makes them look incredibly dumb; it shows what jerks they are. I would have liked making out with Nigel or asking Rich to dance, but when Eliza had to tell her sis about that one kiss, I wanted to punch every single guy who participated in the bullying. For me, it gets very serious if there's family involved.
That was sweet of Cooper, though. He admitted to Tyler that he give their secret society manual or sacred book to Eliza and endured punches to the face from Tyler. I think what he did finally convinced Eliza of giving him another chance; but if I were her, I would have let Cooper explain the list of things and the points for asking me out or opening a door for me. Eliza shouldn't have erupted like that and ran away.
One Night That Changes Everything was wonderful and tasty. I read (and ate) it in one sitting! So you guys should definitely read this book this summer. :-)

Girl at Sea by Maureen Johnson
About the book: Sometimes you have to get lost...
The Girl: Clio, seventeen, wants to spend the summer smooching her art-store crush, not stuck on a boat in the Mediterranean. At least she'll get a killer tan.
The Mission: Survive her father's annoying antics. Oh, also find some underwater treasure that could be the missing link to a long-lost civilization.
The Crew: Dad's absentminded best friend Martin, his scary girlfriend Julia, her voluptuous daughter Elsa . . . and then there's Aidan, Julia's incredibly attractive, incredibly arrogant research assistant.
What's going on behind Aidan's intellectual, intensely green eyes, anyway?
As Clio sails into uncharted territory she unveils secrets that have the power to change history. But her most surprising discovery is that there's something deeper and more mysterious than the sea - her own heart.
...to find what you're looking for
My thoughts and opinion: I swear, Maureen Johnson is, without a doubt, one of my favorite authors and her book, Girl at Sea, was a very good book. Flavorful with a dash of humor. The characters had interesting names as well. There were names I have not ever seen before in my life.
For instance, Clio. I liked Clio because she kind of reminds me of me. Hahaha. Except maybe her "stupid" superpower. I CANNOT find things and people as easily as she can. I think all my lost items would equal to the amount of all Clio's drawings and sketches. However, I do not like to draw as much as Clio does. I'm not as devoted to art... The "kind of" I was referring to was our similarity in the boys department. I liked how Clio was portrayed as tough and how she thought she did not like Aidan, but actually, her feelings for him were just hidden.
I felt bad for Elsa when she caught Aidan and Clio. Clio should have told Elsa about the weird butterflies inside of her that had to do something with Aidan.
I disliked Clio's father, Ben, at first. He seemed a bit too much like my own father because of the happy-go-lucky attitude in public. I could understand why Clio hated her father. And towards the end, I could understand why she was miserable when her father was upset and disappointed with her. This book really implies the saying, "You never know what you have until it's gone."
I really would love for this book to be made into a movie. I'm not going to lie; I am very curious who would play Aidan if there was a movie. So, overall, this was a very, very, very, very good book. Seriously. Do not just sit (or stand) there. Read Girl at Sea. Like right now. Most likely, this book will not disappoint.

Everything You Need to Survive the Apocalypse by Lucas Klauss
About the book: Phillip's sophomore year is off to a rough start. One of his best friends ditches him for a group of douchebags. His track coach singles him out for personalized, torturous training sessions. And his dad decides to clean out all of the emergency supplies from the basement, even though the world could end in disaster at any moment... and even though those supplies are all Phillip has left of his dead mom. Not that he wants to talk about that.
But then Phillip meets Rebekah. Not only is she unconventionally hot and smart, but she has seriously great boobs. And she might like him back.
As Phillip gets closer to Rebekah, he tries harder and harder to turn himself into the kind of person he thinks she wants him to be. But the question is, can he become that person? And does he really want to?
My thoughts and opinion: This book has got to be one of the few books that make me want to burn it and pour the ashes in a toilet. However, I managed to finish reading the book without murdering it. It took a long time... because seriously? I hate all but one character. Amanda. I ONLY love Amanda. She's so nice and friendly and she makes no effort at all being that. Like Amanda was born to be nice and good and not dumb like the other characters. UGH.
I think Phillip and Rebekah had the worst relationship I've ever read in a book. Hahaha. Throughout the book, I kept shouting for one of them to break up with the other. Rebekah is moody and she gets angry pretty easily. Phillip is awkward and he is shy.
Asher doesn't help them by asking Rebekah out and trying to steal her from Phillip.
That was a jerk move.
Anyway, I like the parts or actually the ending when Phillip realizes he doesn't believe in all that religious stuff and he leaves the Summit. That was a very nice touch to the frustrating book.
And Mark. I cannot tell you guys how much I hate Mark and Devin and Asher. I also hate Phillip and Rebekah, but that's a different hate. That's like a feeling hate. Mark, Asher, and Devin all need punches; I hate them violently.
Everything You Need to Survive the Apocalypse was quite difficult to swallow because of all that religious allusions and I'm not a big believer in that...area. So I was kind of lost in the book. Lost like confused. It would've been a good book; I just hated ninety-nine percent of the characters.

How NOT to be Popular by Jennifer Ziegler
About the book: Maggie Dempsey is tired of moving all over the country. Her parents are second-generation hippies who uproot her every year or so to move to a new city. When Maggie was younger, she thought it was fun and adventurous. Now that she's a teenager, she hates it. When she moved after her freshman year, she left behind good friends, a great school, and a real feeling of belonging. When she moved her sophomore year, she left behind a boyfriend, too. Now that they've moved to Austin, she knows better. She's not going to make friends. She's not going to fit in. Anything to prevent her from liking this new place and them from liking her. Only. . . things don't go exactly as planned.
My thoughts and opinion: Well, this book got me very close to tearing up, but not quite. Maggie discovers herself a lot in this book; she learns to forget about Trevor, she realizes that her plan hurt her true friends, and she, gradually, finds that Austin, Texas is growing on her. (Besides she's stuck there forever now. Hahaha.)
I really think her parents, Les and Rosie, are so cool and awesome though. Her parents aren't that crazy voodoo-peace, dude-hippies I thought they would be. I mean, in the book, she talks about how hippie her parents can be, but I like them. I would really love to be their daughter, too! Because it'd be so cool to get fresh starts every few months. AND meet new people! AND see new sights! However, I don't think I'd be good with the emotions and losing friends and boyfriends over and over again.
I thought it was nice when Les and Rosie finally decided to stay at Austin. And when Maggie managed to win back her friends that she hurt.
I really loved Drip and the description Ziegler gave her. Hahaha, I totally could imagine how Drip would be like in real life! She was different from the rest of the "losers" because she actually wanted to go up against the "Bippies". The rest were cowards and I disliked that so much, but I guess that made Drip stand out more.
Overall, this book was a nice read; it took a while, but it had a nice ending.

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick by Joe Schreiber
About the book: "You shot me."
It's three a.m. We're in my father's law office on the forty-seventh floor, or what's left of it. Gobi walks over to me, kneels down and wraps her arms around me, and presses her lips to my ear, close enough that I can make out the words.
"Perry," she says, "I had a very nice time tonight."
It's prom night. Up till now, Perry Stormaire's only worries were finishing his college applications and getting his band its first big gig in the Big Apple. But when his mother makes him take geeky, quiet Lithuanian exchange student Gobija Zaksauskas to the prom instead, Perry figures the night is going to be a disaster.
He has no idea how right he is.
Gobi has a special mission--five targets by daybreak--and Perry's roped into it whether he likes it or not. Now they're off like a prom dress on a reckless, no-brakes blitz through nighttime Manhattan in his father's red Jag, going eyeball to eyeball with Russian mobsters and teen angst, high-velocity bullets and high school bullies, all thanks to the most beautiful girl that ever almost got him killed.
Crammed with car chases, heists, hits, henchmen, eyeliner, and even a bear fight, Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick is a pedal-to-the-floor, rapid-fire thrill ride that will hold you captive to the last page. And remember, it's not over until "au revoir."
My thoughts and opinion: READ THIS BOOK. The only reason I picked up this book was because I thought it had French stuff in it. You know the "au revoir" stuff. But I also thought it was going to have a unexciting plot because of how short the length of the book was. However, cracking open that book was the best decision of my life. This book is like packed with action; I felt like I was reading something similar to Jackie Chan or Matt Damon. Exciting action and awesome adventure!
I kind of think Gobi isn't that crazy. I mean, why does she drag Perry into her problems and murderers when obviously he is a chicken and useless? Gobi is not really shooting people randomly because she feels like it. So I don't think she's crazy; I just think she wants revenge for her twin sister.
I really hate Perry's father. He should really be proud of Perry! He has raised a son who graduated high school. I hated the way Perry's father acted like he knew what was right for Perry; he doesn't even know how to be right! Having an on-going relationship with a fellow worker? So many wrong things there.
I gotta admit though, that was AWESOME the way Perry turned down that university lady. I would have been jumping up and down with excitement.
The dialogue that Perry has with Gobi is witty so I liked that. Overall, this book was scrumptious and I enjoyed reading it!

Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally
About the book: What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys, and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university. But now there's a new guy in town who threatens her starting position...suddenly she's hoping he'll see her as more than just a teammate.
My thoughts and opinion: JORDAN IS SUCH A KICK-ASS GIRL! Oh my gosh, when I was reading this book, I thought, "Why can't I be as cool and awesome as she is? She's so chill!" However, Jordan finally shows proof that she has girl emotions when Ty Green comes along. I found it so cute when she'd get nervous whenever he was close! And Ty? He was the quarterback for his high school in Texas. So a Texan cowboy playing football = Hot!
All Jordan's friends are great. Even JJ who might seem like a pig when he hooks up with different girls in a row. He looks out for Jordan just like Henry, Carter, and Mike. I gotta hand it to Henry (by the way, did you guys notice that he's the only dude Jordan refers to by his last name? His whole name is Sam Henry.) because how could you keep your love for someone so close to you secret for that long?? HE COULD HAVE TOLD HER ANYTIME...It would have been quicker and easier than Jordan finding out from Carrie.
Poor Carrie though.
But seriously, how could Jordan NOT notice Henry liking her? Or no, actually LOVING her?
And then Jordan's father. Donovan Woods. Why couldn't he just be fine with Jordan playing football? Why was it so hard for him to support her? I thought it was nice when he finally came to one of Jordan's games. That was a touching move.
I didn't get why Jordan hated Kristen so much in the book until I got to the middle-ish of the book. Wow, that was really low; how could Kristen say that about Jordan? Personally, I think girls can be JUST FRIENDS with a guy. Or in this case a LOT of guys. HOT guys. A LOT OF HOT GUYS. Haha.
This book was such a great book full of flavor and spices and herbs! I really enjoyed reading it (and perhaps devouring it too!)
